Laguna Beach features world-class beaches. Picture yourself on a daybreak stroll with the seagulls for company, a cool breeze carrying the tang of the sea. Fast forward to dusk and a trademark California sunset. Who can ask for more?
Laguna Beach Highlights
Some of the highlights for Laguna Beach include Main Beach, Crystal Cove State Park, and the famous Catalina Island.
Main Beach. The heart of Laguna Beach boasts not only great swimming but also a boardwalk, volleyball and basketball courts, and kid’s play equipment. From the north end of the boardwalk, you can take a path to Heisler Park. Main Beach is just blocks from the Visitors Center, the Laguna Art Museum, and downtown.
Crystal Cove State Park. If your time in Laguna Beach is limited, consider spending it in Crystal Cove State Park, a “don’t miss” attraction. The parks’ 3.5-mile shoreline is ideal for swimming, surfing, sunbathing, fishing, and exploring tide pools and secret coves. Its offshore waters, designated an underwater park, are excellent for snorkeling and diving. You can take a long walk down the beach and perhaps see dolphins playing in the waves. Shoreline waterfowl are plentiful, especially during winter migration. Check out the historic cottages, which you can reach from the Los Trancos parking lot via the tunnel. These bungalows take you to California of the 20s and 30s and are listed on the National Historic Registry. The park also features trails, wooded canyons, dramatic bluffs, and incredible views on 2,000 acres of undeveloped woodland where you can hike, run, mountain bike, horseback ride, or just plain enjoy nature. You can take advantage of a full range of docent-led hikes, interpretive programs, and guided tours.
Catalina Island. Catalina Island, just 26 miles across the sea, is a portal to another world. Take to the sea on a modern vessel, watch for porpoises, be the first to spot land... After docking, you can sign up for harbor cruises, kayak tours, or island tours; rent a bicycle; swim; or just hang out in Avalon.
