Huntington Beach Highlights
Huntington Beach is Surf City, USA. With 8.2 miles of spacious sandy beaches, surfers and landlubbers alike are guaranteed a unique experience. A continuous path links beaches and attracts bikers, skaters, joggers, and walkers.
Local highlights include Huntington Beach Pier, Huntington City Beach, Huntington State Beach, Dog Beach, and Bolsa Chica Beach.
Huntington Beach Pier. The place to start has always been the Huntington Beach Pier. As you stroll this 1,850-foot structure, you can watch surfers waiting for the perfect wave, try your hand at fishing (no license required from the pier), shop, dine, or just breathe the bracing salt air. This area hosts most surfing competitions, as well as beach volleyball and skate board contests. Downtown Huntington Beach begins across the street and offers plenty of restaurants and shopping — including more surf shops than you thought possible!
Huntington City Beach. Popular Huntington City Beach covers 3.5 miles on either side of the pier. Serious surfers hang out north of the pier; summer beach-goers stay south. This is definitely where the action is — swimming, surfing, beach volleyball, sandcastle building, and people-watching.
Huntington State Beach is a great family beach. Kids love its wide sandy areas for “construction projects” and seagull chasing as well as for wave hopping and body boarding. End the day with a marshmallow roast over a beach fire ring.
Dog Beach. Your canine pals will enjoy a romp on their own special beach!

Bolsa Chica Beach. For a change of pace, try Bolsa Chica Beach, located north of Huntington City Beach. Although not the best swimming area, Bolsa Chica has much to offer for novice surfers and surf fishers. Your best bet, however, is the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve across the Pacific Highway. This restored coastal salt marsh abounds in wildlife and is a prime spot for birding and exploring wetlands.
